World plugs for flat irons and other home appliances

People who travel a lot are well aware of the many different plugs in use worldwide. There are generally 14 types of plugs.

First-time travellers to foreign countries may confronted with the problem of trying to plug their razor, curling iron or flat iron into a socket with an unsuitable configuration, like pounding a square peg into a round hole.

Which plug is used where?

Here is an overview of all countries of the world and their respective plugs/outlets and voltages/frequencies used for domestic appliances.


The table shows that in most countries the mains supply is between 220 and 240 volts (50 or 60 Hz); countries that operate on 100-127 volts are greatly outnumbered. The list also reveals that types A and C are the most frequently used electric plugs worldwide.
